- ROANOKE, Va. Katherine DeBusk Herald passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 9, 2018, in Roanoke, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Herald; her parents, Ellis and Lillian DeBusk; and her sister, Elizabeth McKenna. She ie is survived by her son, Roger and daughter-in-law, Cindy, Roanoke, Va.; two granddaughters, Melissa Almond and husband, Kenneth, Raleigh, N.C., and Laura Ruleman and husband, Josh, Vero Beach, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. Katherine wae was a former resident of the Clinchburg Community and a graduate of Glade Spring High School and Bristol Commercial College. She was an active member of Mahanaim United Methodist Church for many years where she served in various roles including a United Methodist Youth Fellowship leader. After living in Abingdon, Virginia for several years, she moved to Roanoke, Virginia to be near family. She was a current member of Abingdon United Methodist Church. Katherine was a former employee of the US Gypsum Commissary and after a few years as a stay at home Mom, she completed a Cosmetology program at Washington County Technical School. She established and worked in her own beauty shop for several years. She also worked many years fos for Washington County, retiring from the Commissioner of the Revenue office. A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2018, at Henderson Funeral Home in Saltville, Va., with the Rev. Barry Loupe officiating. A visitation time will be from 12:30 to 2 p.m. preceding the service. Interment to follow the service in Mount Rose Cemetery.
